Why Do Bad Things Happen to Good People?
Sunday, October 26, 2025
The parable in Luke 13 reminds us that God is both patient and purposeful. Like the landowner who waits for fruit from his fig tree, God grants us time to repent and bear fruit—but His patience is not endless. The call to repentance is clear: we are to turn from spiritual barrenness to fruitfulness through faith and obedience. The vineyard dresser’s plea to give the tree one more year illustrates Christ’s intercession and God’s mercy toward us. Yet, if no change comes, judgment will follow. The message is urgent; life is fragile, time is short, and fruitfulness is the evidence of genuine faith. In the broader biblical context, Job’s perseverance, Joseph’s forgiveness, and Paul’s endurance all reveal the same truth: God redeems suffering and delays to bring about deeper faith and greater fruit. When Jesus returns, He is looking not for perfection, but for productivity, the fruit that comes from a transformed life.
