What’s your conduct until Christ returns? 2 Peter 3:11-18 1. (11-13) We should be holy in conduct and godliness a. (11) holy conduct: manner of life, conduct, behavior, deportment (demeanor, attitude, posture) – In holy form of behavior and godly deeds denoting the spontaneous feeling of the heart (Luke 6:45) b. (11) godliness: reverence, respect, piety only as directed towards God. c. Ephesians 4:20-24 – “put on the new self” – We do it! d. I Timothy 4:12- show yourself an example e. Hebrews 13:7 – imitate their faith (Phil. 4:9) f. I Peter 1:14-16 – be holy (Lev. 11:44) 2. (14-16) Be found good with God and man a. What Paul said about… i. Rom. 12:18-21 – People with man by not taking revenge but feeding and giving drink to your enemy, overcoming evil by good. Example WWII ii. Rom. 5:1 – peace with God by justification iii. Eph. 5:25-27 – spotless by example iv. Col. 1:22 – blameless (Phil. 2:14,15) b. (16) to their own destruction: literally the second death, that is exclusion from the Messiah’s kingdom 3. (17) Be on guard a. Be on your guard: to observe for one’s self something to escape; to avoid, shun, flee from; to guard for one’s self so as not to violate i. II Thess. 3:3 – He will strengthen and protect you ii. II Tim. 1:12-14 – guard through the Holy Spirit iii. I John 5:21 – guard yourselves from idols b. If you know the Word you won’t be carried away 4. (18) Be growing in your faith a. Col. 2:6,7 – Walk in Him b. Phil. 1;6 – He who began a good work will complete it c. I Pet. 2:2,3 – long for milk as newborn babes d. Heb. 5:12-14 – Milk vs solid food e.
