Suicide Prevention Month Discussion with Dr. Gregg Elliot, Colorado Christian University Sunday, September 8, 2024
If you’re struggling, it’s okay to share your feelings. If you have suicide thoughts or thoughts of self-harm please dial the suicide prevention lifeline at 988. Over 703,000 people die to suicide every year, and in the US, white males account for 68.46% of all suicide death. Yet, men account for less than 50% of suicide attempts. The data is concerning, confusing and critical to anyone seeking to share God’s love with a broken world. Dr. Gregg Elliott is an Associate Professor of Counseling and expert in explaining the role of mental health in suicide as well as educating others how they can play a role in its prevention. With World Suicide Prevention Day coming up on September 10, Dr. Elliott is available to speak on this essential topic. Dr. Gregg Elliott is an Associate Professor at Colorado Christian University, where he was the 2021 Outstanding Faculty of the Year for the School of Behavioral and Social Sciences. He was the 2023 – 24 Chair of the American Counseling Association Western Region, and he is the Treasurer and a past president of the Colorado Counseling Association. He has been active in legislative advocacy and in working with the American Counseling Association on development of the Interstate Compact for counselor licensure in Colorado and other states. Dr. Elliott has been a licensed professional counselor in the state of Colorado since 2006. He is dually-licensed as a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in Iowa. His clinical experiences include directing a university counseling center, working in a partial hospitalization program for severely mentally ill adults, working in an inpatient hospital setting with adults and adolescents, and working with at-risk youth and families. His clinical specialization has been in working with suicidal clients. Dr. Elliott also maintains a small clinical supervision practice for counselors working to obtain their post-graduate supervised hours for licensure. Psalm 23

We live in a broken world with full of challenges, failures, and disappointments. As life continues, many unknowns lie before us that can weigh us down, inflicting wounds that often get buried or ignored. We have been created to thrive in our relationships with God, our family, our neighbors and ourselves. By knowing that God is our Good Shepherd, understanding the identity that we have as his precious sheep, we can find rest and healing in our souls. Through this humble book, Healing Through Psalm 23, may God comfort you who are suffering, who are in pain, who need forgiveness; may you know God, walk confidently and grow into the maturity of coming alongside others in their journey of healing.
