This is the most gut wrenching verse in the entire Bible. The pain uttered by our Lord exceeds that of the physical. Physical pain can be endured; we often can wait it out until death brings its freedom. This pain came from a deeper well—a man forsaken from the presence of God, and tortured by the silence of God.
